Volta is an alias for Olya Slobodyanik (born 1985 in Kiev, Ukraine).
Volta’s first fascination with music was sparked in a very young age by listening to rare disco and funk records smuggled in post-soviet Ukraine from States by her friend’s big brother who worked on a cruise liner. At that stage Volta realized that she wanted to understand how music works and why it has such an amazing effect on people.
At the age of 10 Volta started learning classical guitar and music theory. After some years of playing in classical trios and bands in music school she realized she needs to go further. At that stage, listening to the tapes of Orb, Aphex Twin, Orbital, Underworld, Juno Reactor and the Future Sound of London Volta developed her love and affection for the amazing world of electronic sound.
Later on, working as a journalist and a model and travelling around the globe, she became exposed to some of the best music festivals as well as authentic African, Asian and European native music. Drawing inspiration from the world’s best producers and her DJ friends and having thrown few parties in Tokyo where she used to live, Volta decided to make her own way to the DJ booth from where she could share her love for the music with other people.
Volta’s main inspiration is melodic and funky techno and tech-house with its vocal subtleties and infectious positive vibe often mixed with world fusion influences. With finest track selection and close attention to the dance floor, she always creates beautiful, playful, driving and sexy sets which guarantee to leave the crowd wanting more.
